PAINTING 009 - After a long and troubled road, i finally present the finished painting for the rock band NIRVANA. For more information on the trials and troubles associated with painting this piece, read the comments section.

(taken directly from wikipedia:) NIRVANA was an American rock band that formed in Aberdeen, Washington. With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their 1991 album Nevermind, Nirvana exploded into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. Other Seattle grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden also gained in popularity, and, as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television in the United States during the early-to-middle 1990s.

this piece was plagued with problems from start to finish. when i first drew the rough sketch i thought i nailed the band. when that got drawn onto the canvas, i was very unhappy with kurt. i used a pink prismacolor pencil and blue sharpie and made some corrections that i was happy with. the results? as paint went on, the blue ink and the pink pencil kept bleeding through every layer of paint (mental note: lesson learned.). after many coats of paint, fixative, pastel, paint, fixative, pastel, etc. I was done. loved it. new favorite. great, let's attach the frame. as i am doing this, a bookend leaps from the bookcase and falls directly onto the canvas. rip, torn, heartbroken. i sat on the couch and moped. i thought about nirvana, the band, their attitude. said to myself. f@ck it. taped that pretty gouge shut. with blue painter tape even. little more paint, fixative, pastel, etc. viola! punk f@cking rock!

I think that it's really perfect that there was so much grit required while doing this work! You finished in with grace and that freaking rocks! Great work.
Just stopped in to say thanks for stopping in to my blog. Cool paintings! All your charactors would make a cool cartoon.
